Scrimmage Update

Just got back from a great evening chatting with some folks in between scrimmage rounds. The hotel is overrun with high schoolers from around the nation along with their coaches and parents and the sounds of buzzers are emanating from random rooms.

A team walked by with Chinese hats, so I asked them if there was a story behind the hats. Apparently Wilmington Charter (yes, last week’s champions) is missing one of their team members for the weekend and said team member happens to be Asian.  Honoring his memory, they are wearing the hats that they purchased from their excursion to Chinatown earlier in the day.

While hanging out in the lobby as teams were being assigned, I had a chance to chat with some of the coaches and players in more depth too. I’m hoping to do profiles of as many schools as possible, so if you’re here keep an eye out for me and I’ll be glad to interview y’all (I’m the one with a laptop with a Georgia Peach sticker). The next few posts are from some of those people.

I’m off to play in the all-geography side tournament right now though, so give me a few hours to get caught up.
