Welcome back everyone after almost a full year of exciting and competitive high school quizbowl. I, Chris Chiego, will once again be your liveblogger/correspondent for the 2010 National Academic Quiz Tournaments‘ (NAQT) High School National Championship Tournament (HSNCT). Last year, we attracted over 10,000 unique hits to this blog during the tournament and almost 2,000 hits to the liveblogs during play and were even featured on Deadspin, but I look forward to breaking those numbers this year.

This year, I’ll probably be posting slightly less before the tournament (graduate school is keeping me busy), but will provide  live updates throughout the tournament itself. Any suggestions on how I can improve coverage from last year (player/coach interviews? more gossip? more recaps of key games? amusing anecdotes about players?) are more than welcome in the comments section. If you’re interested in how the quizbowl season has progressed so far, take a gander at the results from all NAQT tournaments run so far this year.

With the tournament now only 3 weeks away, the 200-team field (an increase of 8 teams from last year, making this the largest academic quiz tournament ever to the best of my knowledge) has just about reached its limit. Like last year, the HSNCT will be held at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare in Rosemont, IL along with some rounds at the neighboring Donald E. Stephens convention center. Chicago’s a great city to visit and I’m looking forward to having the opportunity to get into the downtown area after the tournament ends on Sunday.

Look for posts on these topics in the coming weeks:
– Predictions and Capsule Commentary on the Top Contenders for the Title
– A Brief Explanation of How “Quizbowl” Matches, Strategies, etc. Work
– The Gameplan for the Liveblog, from Friday night through the championship match on Sunday afternoon
